Creating comics and manga is going to be easier than ever thanks to a new AI platform Lumi that aims to transform ideas into stories, FastCompany reported. As founder and CEO Colin Kaepernick stated, Lumi will have the tool and other features that will let anyone with a basic idea to create comic books, graphic novels, or manga out of it. That includes developing the characters, creating the dialogues along with creating suitable images as well.

Once the creators are satisfied with what Lumi has done with their ideas, they can then proceed to publish the stories. It can be in both digital and print form. Lumi is also going to help creators find buyers of their works, thereby serving as a one-stop solution for creating graphic novels and manga. From creating the comics to selling them, all of it can be done via Lumi itself.

“We’ll handle all the logistics behind the scenes,” says Kaepernick. “One of the things that we’ve found is that creators love creating, and they want to focus on creating. Most of them do not want to be business operators.”

Apart from the stories itself, creators will also have the option to create merchandise based on their stories. Those can be like mugs, T-shirts, posters, and so on featuring the characters or scenes from the stories. Apart from helping creators design such merchandise, Lumi will also chip in with other aspects such as the manufacturing, sales, and shipping of the wares.

“They can publish it or merchandise it or monetize it anywhere else, which we think is a healthy relationship because it also pushes us to make sure that we’re providing the best service for creators,” Kaepernick says.

Lumi however is still in the beta stages, which means it could be some time before it becomes ready to deliver the goods it promises. Also, it being an AI model, it would require data for its effective training. Kaepernick said Lumi might also use its own creations for training future AI models but would compensate the creators adequately for the same.
