Waveshare introduced several dot matrix ESL color e-paper displays, which it claims are ideal for various applications. As Cnx-Software mentioned, those can be IoT, retail, or industrial all thanks to the Bluetooth and NFC connectivity that the displays support. One of the significant advantages of the ESL or Electronic Shelf Label is that it can be updated using a wireless base station. This ensures effective device management using the Waveshare cloud platform.

The ESL series comes in 4 size options, offering e-paper displays of 2.13-inch, 2.66-inch, 2.9-inch, and 3.5-inch. All the displays can show color and support Red, Yellow, Black, and White colors. The displays are in a durable ABS plastic case with a 1200 mAh coin cell battery. Waveshare is claiming the battery can last 5 years and is user-replaceable.

The long battery life can be attributed to the ultra-low power requirement of the e-paper displays. As long as the image is static, there is almost zero power drain; power is only drawn when the display refreshes. The display otherwise has a wide 178-degree viewing angle. These qualities make it ideal for use as name tags, price tags, ESLs, asset tracking, etc. The displays can operate in a temperature band of 0 to 40 degrees.

The ESL dot matrix e-paper displays are available from Amazon and priced at $467.99. You get the entire package for that amount, including four displays, a power supply, mounting brackets, and the gateway. AliExpress is offering the same for a slightly lower $459.99. You can also buy standalone displays from Amazon and the official Waveshare store.
