Taylor & Francis said they have a new e-reader app to offer to go with its e-book reader platform, the website Research Information reported. The company said the new app is designed to offer a more seamless reading experience. The app has been designed keeping in mind user feedback to the previous apps it had to offer, with the focus being to make things simple and hassle-free, while at the same time, enhancing accessibility.
Further, it is a single e-reader app that the company has come to offer this time. Previously, it used to be two apps that the company offered for basic and advanced users. Among the enhancements that the app has been provided with include a new and more effective search feature along with offline access and a personalization option. Plus, there are going to be improvements to make it easier for students and researchers to use the app.
More specifically, the app would now be supporting the ePub3 e-book format. This is significant considering that over 175,000 e-books available on the Taylor & Francis platform support this format. The app has been designed in accordance with the European Accessibility Act. Other improvements include a read-aloud feature using text-to-speech technology with the option to choose from different languages. There are also going to be the option to change font style or font size.
“A key element of our industry-leading accessibility program is the creation of products and services that are ‘born accessible’. The development team has kept this as a priority throughout the process and we’re delighted that the result is an eReader which is as inclusive as possible,” said Stacy Scott, Head of Accessibility at Taylor & Francis.
Arpit Goel, Senior Product Manager at Taylor & Francis, added: “The Taylor & Francis eBooks platform is used by many different groups of people, from general readers to students and researchers. We wanted to make sure that the new eReader enables everyone to get the most out of the books we publish. We also know that readers engage with eBooks across multiple devices and when they’re on the move, so the eReader has been designed to be incredibly flexible.”
The new e-reader app is available to download for free from the company website. The older app will still be supported but only till February 16, 2025. You have time till then to switch over to the new app.
