Just the other day Kobo announced the sale of the Libra 2 e-reader, the only catch being that it is a refurbished version that is being offered. Now, they have announced the sale of the first generation Kobo Elipsa e-note device which too is in a refurbished state and is currently on sale for a nice $219. That makes it quite competitive when it comes to e-note devices in the 10-inch segment.

However, while you can have the Kobo Elipsa for $219, the thing to keep in mind is that the stylus and cover have to be bought separately. The Kobo Stylus 2 is priced at $70 while the Kobo Elipsa SleepCover will set you back $50. That makes another $120 to be paid to make the most of the Elipsa e-note device. With the entire bundle costing $339, things start to look a bit too costly. The other option for you will be to buy the Elipsa e-note from Kobo while sourcing the cover and stylus from other third-party sources.

The Elipsa, meanwhile shouldn’t need any introduction. However, here is a refresher just in case you have missed it. It comes with a 10.3-inch E Ink Carta 1200 display having 227 PPI resolution. Under the hood lies a 1.8 GHz quad-core processor. Onboard lies 32 gigs of storage which should be enough to hold thousands of e-books or hundreds of audiobooks or a mix of both. Kobo is also claiming a long battery life which would depend on how you put the device to use.

These apart, the Elipsa supports several international languages. It can decipher up to 15 file formats natively, which includes the most used e-books, image, and comic file formats. It measures 7.6mm in thickness and weighs 383 grams. It supports Wi-Fi connectivity while the USB-C onboard allows for a wired connection as well as for recharging the battery.

Kobo has followed up the Elipsa with the Elipsa 2E which however does not include any huge improvement over the former. That way, opting for the first-generation Elipsa might make sense if you don’t mind it being refurbished and not brand new.
