The Kobo Libra 2 is available once again. However, before you start celebrating, here is the catch: the ones sold now are certified refurbished models. It being so, there are some savings to be made. The Libra 2 is now selling for $159 with free shipping, which is $30 less than what brand-new models would have otherwise cost. Both black and white versions of the Libra 2 are available to buy.
This should be good news for those who might have missed the Libra 2 now that the model is discontinued. This happened after the Kobo Libra Colour was introduced a few months back. While the Libra Colour is a brilliant piece of e-reader hardware, what also can’t be denied is that the Libra 2 is also impressed with its exceptional clarity and contrast. It used to be one of the best Kobo e-readers, and many lamented the company pulled it out abruptly after the launch of the Kobo Libra Colour. A black-and-white alternative to the Libra Colour would have been excellent for those who prefer the monochrome e-paper display against colour.
Anyway, those who long for the Libra 2 e-reader now have the option to pick one up, and that too, at a discounted rate. As stated, the only catch is that it is in refurbished condition but is offered the same certification as a brand-new device. It does not have the note-taking capability of the Libra Colour. Still, maybe Kobo should consider launching a new version of Libra with all the benefits of Libra 2 and note-taking capability.
