Winners of the inaugural American Manga Awards have been announced. Presented by Anime NYC and the Japan Society, the award recognizes remarkable achievements in the field of Japanese comics while also honoring the best manga published in North America last year. The selection process was rigorous with prominent names in the world of manga serving as the judge. Those include manga publishers, creators, translators, designers, letterers, and so on. The event took place at the Japan Society in New York City.
The awards ceremony took place just prior to the Anime NYC event currently underway at the Japan Society. Anime NYC happens to be the largest event celebrating Japanese pop culture on the East Coast. The event lasts till August 25 2024 and attracts more than 100,000 fans from around the world.
Noted translator and author of Manga! Manga! The World of Japanese Comics, Frederik L. Schodt was inducted into the American Manga Awards Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding contribution towards making manga more popular among the English-speaking audience.
