Hyundai Motor, one of the world’s leading car manufacturers, said it is all set to introduce e-paper-based ID cards for visitors. As Korea Herald stated, the badges will have an e-paper display positioned above an LCD panel. The Korea-based company said the advanced badge would be first introduced in its domestic facilities before it was rolled out in all its international locations in a phased manner. The company’s headquarters in Yangjae, Seoul, will be the first to have the badge.
Using e-paper-based badges will significantly shift towards more environment-friendly solutions than the traditional radio frequency cards made of plastic that the new e-paper cards will replace. Since information in such cards can be updated easily, they can be reused and hence have a longer life span. This leads to less plastic waste generated.
“We expect these new ID badges will not only improve convenience for visitors to Hyundai facilities but also strengthen our overall security and safety management,” said Han Tae-kwon, a manager in Hyundai’s security planning and operations division.
The badge will display visitor information such as name, designation, and other details, along with a photo, allowing the authorities to easily identify the visitor. The badge will also have advanced security features. For instance, if anyone tries to enter an area earmarked as inaccessible, an alarm will be activated, and the badge will also turn red.
In addition, the rear of the card will include an SOS button, which, when pressed, will initiate an emergency procedure. This allows for quick and efficient security management tasks while ensuring better security and safety for visitors.
