Tablet shipments the world over are back on the growth track. As IDC has revealed, there have been 34.4 million tablet devices shipped during the April-June quarter. This marks a healthy 22.1 percent annual growth, indicating that demand for tablet devices has reached the pre-pandemic levels.
However, what has remained steadfast is Apple’s dominance over the tablet segment, even though its market share has witnessed a slight dip. With 12.3 million iPad devices shipped during the period, it remains at the top and by a considerable margin. That’s up from the 10.4 million iPads shipped during the same period last year, though its market share dropped from 37 percent last year to 35.8 percent now.
Samsung is in second place with 6.9 million tablet devices shipped compared to 5.8 million tablets last year. With this, the Korean conglomerate has 20.1 percent of the tablet market, a marginal dip from the 20.6 percent market share it held last year.
The third spot belongs to Lenovo, which managed to push 2.5 million units during the period, up from 2.1 million last year. However, it, too, saw its market share dip from 7.6 percent last year to 7.3 percent this quarter.
Huawei is in fourth place, having shipped 2.3 million units during the period compared to 1.7 million last year. The Chinese company is also the first among the top tablet manufacturers to witness positive growth in its market share, which went from 3.7 percent last year to 5.8 percent during the April-June quarter this year.
Xiaomi emerged as the fifth most significant player and the only one with the most considerable sales growth. While it shipped 1 million units last year, this jumped to 2 million tablet devices this year. That is also reflected in the market share, which increased from 3.7 percent to 5.8 percent this year.
It will be interesting to see if the segment can maintain its growth momentum in the future. Stay tuned.
